Felix's history
Personality:
Negative:
• Manipulative: Felix's most used trait would be how naturally and easily he manipulates the people around him. As a very self-centered individual, it serves Felix well to know how other people tick and to use their desires and emotions against them. He often uses fancy speeches to sway others into doing what he wants, such as when he talks Siris into ransom to get their money back after a job hits a stonewall. His entire career during the Chorus civil war revolves around manipulating the people of that planet to trust him and continue their fight so he can complete his mission (to eventually kill them all). This goes on for at minimum of two and some odd years and no one ever suspects a thing. He's a smooth talker, very charismatic, and friendly whenever he wants to be. He craftily lines his lies with slivers of truth to help sell the bit. If it helps him get his way, get him to his own end goal, Felix will gladly take any route available to him and it's easiest to do so when others willingly follow him to do his bidding whether they realize it or not.
• Volatile: This becomes very obvious once the friendly facade falls away and reveals the sadistic, psychopathic individual beneath the veneer. Felix takes offense easily and readily, often projecting his own faults onto others after they irritate or confuse or simply get in his way of something he wants. He's prone to sarcasm and dark humor, and when that isn't enough and things really go south for him, Felix switches to yelling and violence as if it will get things back on track to getting him what he wants. He quickly devolves into a 'no holds barred' type of anger, readily slinging insults and punches, and has no qualms hurting or killing someone that he hates. And he hates literally everyone except himself (and maybe even that a little, too).
• Egotistical: Not only self-centered and self-serving, Felix has a high opinion of himself as well. He often compliments himself and calls himself such things as "fucking awesome" and "a badass space marine" and "a know-it-all with a knife" to stroke his own ego. He considers himself stronger and faster than everyone else around because that's how he survived the war, and that's how he continues to live his life. If he can kill someone before they kill him then he's perfectly content to do just that to get ahead in life. Some of his flirting involves him talking about how good looking he is and speaking highly of himself, such as when he's seen talking to the female doctor in one scene saying he could be too good looking. In Felix's eyes, Felix has no faults and does no wrong. Anything that could be construed as a failure on his part is easily brushed aside and blamed on something or someone else. He projects his faults onto other people and often calls them insults that probably just as or more accurately describe himself. He has no care for others, and only love for himself.
Positive:
• Charismatic: Whenever Felix chooses to be he can be very charming and amiable to those around him. He once described his demeanor as "the charismatic mercenary with a gruff exterior... but a heart of gold" and that's typically how he comes off. He's witty and clever in a conversation. He uses sarcasm to emphasize his points. But he sticks around and offers aid whenever someone needs it. These are things he does to win himself to others and it works. If it's a lie, well, it doesn't hurt anyone if they never figure it out, now does it? Felix doesn't mind the truth behind his charm and uses it to great lengths. That aside, Felix does appear to genuinely enjoy the company of others and is a bit of a social butterfly. He's easy-going and appears friendly, and he loves to talk. He knows it, too, but that doesn't stop him from doing it. It makes him feel good.
• Loyal: A trait that's less obvious but decidedly very accurate. Felix can be loyal to a fault once he's latched onto someone. For the most part he is very self-serving and does every little thing with his own benefit in mind. However, once he's claimed someone as his own they become something of value to him. That value to him equates to his loyalty in that person. This is clear in the way he treats his partner, Locus. Everyone else around him is cannon fodder. He makes this very clear with the way he talks about their underlings and in the way he casually throws their lives away. But Locus? He will go to war for that man. Locus is the constant at his side, the partner that he relies upon to survive, and he will come running whenever Locus calls his name. This is literal in battle as shown in canon. He will also follow orders from someone he trusts explicitly. Again, shown through his relationship to Locus and how Locus is the one person he listens to when the going is rough. Despite their constant bickering and fighting, Felix latched onto his partner and now he's too reliant, too protective of his partner to let go. Considering his personality type, it's entirely likely Felix would form a similar bond with someone else ...if given a chance and a need to do so.
• Tenacious: Felix is hard to subdue and even harder to get to quit at something. His dedication to getting what he wants has gotten him through life for a long time now. He is a survivor, tenacious and hard to kill in a fight, determined to come out on top no matter the odds against him such as in the Great War. On the downside it also means that he's quite stubborn and unwilling to bend to the needs of others over his own desires. And once he snaps his stubbornness can cause him problems as he bullheadedly pushes forward even when it might not be the best course of action anymore. But on a good day, it means he's dedicated to getting the job done no matter the cost and that he will find a crafty way to make anything work no matter the difficulty.
Powers/Abilities:
• Military Training: Gates was recruited into the Great War and quickly proved his adeptness for combat and stealth missions. He has top-rate military training as a special ops soldier who participated in one of the worst battles during the war--and survived, a feat none of his other squad members managed except his later partner and himself.
• Expert Melee Combatant: Felix loves CQC more than any other type, and he is specially talented with the combat knife. He is shown on multiple occasions to be capable of holding his own in melee combat against some of the most skilled individuals in his canon.
• Expert Marksman: Felix is just as good with a firearm as he is with the knife. His marksmanship has been shown to be quite exceptional, often killing multiple targets in quick succession with one shot for each target.
• MJOLNIR Armor: This is more of an equipment item than skill but it does give him enhanced strength, speed, and endurance as well as provide him with adequate protection and grant him abilities from its advanced technologies and enhancements. Notably it is environmentally sealed and can withstand the emptiness of space, comes equipped with radio functions and an advanced HUD within the helmet, has gravboots that stick to surfaces, and has been equipped with a Hardlight Shield enhancement that allows him to project a blue semi-transparent holographic shield that can deflect bullets and most energy projectiles and "low" level explosions (such as from a grenade).
• Neural Implant: More of a feature than an ability, Felix underwent surgeries for neural implant to be added to his body (it is visible on the back of his neck). These are in direct correlation to his armor, syncing with it to allow quicker reaction times and direct mind inputs for use of various features of the armor. It also provides a pathway for an AI to enter into his mind via a port (or radio waves in the case of the Alpha and certain versions of his fragments) so it has enough space combined with the suit systems to operate comfortably. Additional info added by way of question to mods. Approved. (Screened comments.)
• Mercenary: Jack-of-all-trades, highly skilled bounty hunter, master assassin. Call him what you will but Felix knows a lot of ways to complete a mission and he's done it all. If he doesn't know how to do it yet, he can learn it. He quickly adapts to situations and can even operate alien technology with the proper training or tech-aids on hand.
• Charismatic Manipulator: Of note here because Felix literally used his capabilities as a convincing liar and manipulator to earn the trust and confidence of both military and civilian personnel on Chorus for something at least over two years long. He has a penchant for talking his way into anything he wants and he's seen using very convincing speeches to sway people to his side when it counts.
• Restriction Device: Placed on him by Viveca and Degar upon arrival, Felix has been fitted with a restriction device that prevents him from taking certain actions against his fellow Ximlia teammates. As they are aware of Felix's volatile nature they thought it an acceptable measure to keep him from hurting the Orbers. It will allow him to defend himself but not attack teammates without reason. Per discussion, the governor has been fitted into his neural implant and can directly affect the mercenary's systems. If he tries to attack anyone, the device activates and initiates armor lock while he's suited up and an equally disabling function to his body's neural system while armorless.
Regret:
Felix's regret is not killing, or not allowing his partner to kill, the Simulation Troopers as soon as possible. And thus not completing their last mission. And, ya know, dying.
Suitability:
Felix has a plethora of skills that would prove useful on missions. He's military trained in combat, stealth, and recon for intel gathering and completing covert operations. On top of that he's very naturally outgoing and quite good at manipulation, using charm and carefully crafted words to get his way. He finishes his missions at all costs. He can work well with a group (sorta), as an individual (better), or with a trusted partner (best, but picky on this one). His only downside is he's very antagonistic and a bit volatile but at least he has no known enemies on board the Ximilia to provoke his nastier side? He's fully capable of playing along to get the job done, and he's very, very interested in getting his regret fixed so he can get back to the life he lost--and get his revenge. That's a Big Deal to him.
